The apps
Margin collects nothing. It reads trackpad touches on your Mac to move volume and brightness, and it makes no network connections.
Margin Lookup reads the word under your pointer when you force click, using macOS Accessibility. It keeps a search index of your local agent transcripts (Claude Code, Codex, Pi, Prime Agent) in ~/Library/Application Support/Margin Lookup. That index never leaves your Mac.
Margin Lookup sends data only in these cases:
- Wikipedia tab: the word you clicked is sent to Wikipedia's public API. Turn the tab off in the menu to stop this.
- Recall on a cloud model: if you switch Recall from Apple's on-device model to OpenAI, Claude or another server, the word, its sentence and the matching chat snippets go to that provider under your own API key and their privacy terms. Apple's on-device model, the default, sends nothing.
- Self-hosted library: if you turn on the Hyperbrowser tab, the word goes to the server address you entered.
Neither app has analytics, crash reporting, accounts or ads.

margin.berrocal.xyz runs on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no tracking scripts. It keeps daily totals of page views and downloads, and the host name of referring sites, in a Cloudflare KV store. Nothing is stored per visitor: no IP addresses, no identifiers.
